Westhab Launches “Dress for Success” Initiative
Why is it important to dress for success and what does it actually mean? Some might think it means that men should wear a suit and tie while women should wear a suit and pearls. While that might seem like the natural inclination, let’s explore what it means on a deeper level.
Dressing for success means dressing with intention. The intention could be general, “I’m going to look more professional today.” Or the intention could be more specific, “I’m going to create an atmosphere around me that demands respect, offers value, and fosters long-lasting partnerships.” Hint—specific intentions work very well.
Our team is excited about these initiatives! The benefits we’ve experienced include:
- You automatically look the part—We are professionals, and when we dress the part, we stand out as professionals from the moment we leave our homes until the moment we return. People will treat you differently if you look like you’re on your way to a business meeting.
- It’s good for business—It’s no secret that when you look good, you tend to feel good, and happy employees are good for business! Spicing up your appearance also adds an element of je-ne-sais-quoi in the middle of the week (when many of us are craving the sweet smell of Friday afternoon).
- It’s also good for our job seekers—Many of our job seekers are anxious enough about employment and sometimes don’t feel like they have what it takes to get where they want professionally. This is why resources like our Career Closet are so important. We have clothes that have been donated that our job seekers can select (in a no-cost boutique setting) to help them join the fashion trend!
Dressing for success means looking sharp for whatever the dress code is that day. So take the time in the evening to iron your shirt, press your pants, and shine your shoes. Looking sharp extends to personal hygiene as well— don’t forget to comb your hair, brush your teeth, and neaten your nails. Always remember that people experience you with most of their senses, so dress to impress!
