Opening Doors to Long-Term Success
What We Do
Westhab creates pathways to careers in the fast-growing construction industry. Our in-person trainings offer certifications, such as
- Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) 30
- Flagger
- Introduction to Masonry and Concrete
- Introduction to Electrical Safety
- Confined Space
- Site Safety Certification
Participants receive job readiness training to teach fundamental skills like resume building and interviewing to set them up for success. Trainings are designed to prepare participants to enter the construction industry immediately after completion.
Who We Serve
Programs currently serve individuals in Westchester County and the Bronx who are unemployed or under-employed. The communities we operate in often have a poverty rate of more than 2x the national average and high rates of unemployment, where individuals face barriers to employment like lack of work experience, limited education, and previous criminal justice system involvement. Construction job training allows community residents to find local job opportunities with livable wages.
Why It Works?
- INDUSTRY GROWTH
The construction industry in Westchester and NYC has a surplus of available jobs and is projected to increase by over 20% by 2026. This growth reflects a high demand for construction services driven by ongoing urban development and infrastructure projects in Westchester and NYC.
- JOB READY
When training is completed, participants are prepared to enter the workforce immediately and provided with essential tools of the trade, such as hard hats and tool belts. These resources are crucial in eliminating initial barriers to employment, ensuring graduates can start their careers effectively and confidently.
- JOB PLACEMENT
Program participants are connected to our network of employer partners, opening the door for their first job in the industry. Westhab employment specialists support participants after job placements to help them retain their new jobs.
- CAREER ADVANCEMENT
Participants in Westhab’s construction training programs can further specialize in specific trades such as HVAC, welding, and plumbing through advanced training, paving the way for enhanced career prospects and professional growth.

In Their Words
“I enjoy this job. I’m always busy, there’s always something to do, and the pay is great especially when there are opportunities for overtime. The idea of being a part of building something makes me excited. I like telling my friends and family that ‘I helped build that building!’” – Dareece, Westhab Construction Training Participant
