On Tuesday December 28th, the Nodine Hill community gathered for the 4th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration produced by the staff and young people of Westhab's Elm Street Neighborhood Center. Hosted by Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church and produced by ESNC Coordinator, Raymond Reid- or 'Mr. Ray' as he's affectionately known to all of the young people in the community- the Celebration went late into the evening and included the Elm Street "Supremes" in full 60s garb, the debut of the Elm Street Gospel Choir conducted by the always inspirational Anne Sinclaire, a fashion show of clothing from Ghana, and original poetry, music, and dance by the Elm Street youth. The night was inspiring, educational, and a wonderful statement of the power of the community when it rallies together. Thanks to our partners from ArtsWestchester- Haifa Bint-Kadi, Matt Pungello, and Marion Archer for their hard work and countless rehearsals; Captain Charles Fara and the Yonkers Police Department officers who came out to support the event; and all of the children, parents, and staff that made this an unforgettable night.
